NEW TO THE SPORT?
You might be new to sport and feeling a little unsure what to expect and what is needed to shoot a match! Do not worry, we have ALL been there. The barrier to entry is much lower than what you might expect. Here is a basic list of what you ma need and how you can prepare for your first match:
1. Firstly, read and familiarize yourself with our Rules and Regulations
2. For a match you will need:
- Rifle chambered in .22LR or an Air Gun in .35 caliber or lower and projectiles not exceeding 85gn
- Optics (optics with holdover marks and or tactical turrets are advised but if you know where to hold on various distances you will be fine)
- Detachable magazine
- Bipod (if you do not use one you can shoot from a barricade bag, but a bipod is advisable)
- Barricade bag. There are numerous options, you do not need to start with the most expensive one.
- Ammunition. Again, there are many options, go with the one that makes sense in your rifle and budget.
- Empty Chamber Indicator
- A good attitude and willingness to have fun and compete in a fair manner
We generally invite new shooters to bring what they have, you will be able to see what additional gear you need, and if you like the format, then you can invest in better gear. There are ALWAYS experienced shooters willing to share gear and knowledge.
What to expect at a match:
- Generally you will arrive at the match and be expected to sign the range register
- From there you will be afforded time to zero your rifle and check your dope.
- During this there will always be a friendly environment and lots of banter.
- After the zero range has closed there will be a safety briefing and general stage briefing
- From here you will move to your starting stage
- Each stage is afforded a 5 minute period where the squad will do the stage briefing and read out the shooting order
- Shooters are expected to work as a squad and ensure the their squad runs smoothly. This is achieved by helping spot / score and keep time. It is further sped up by shooters being fully ready and waiting at the shooting line when they are on standby to shoot after the shooter on stage.
- After all shooters are done the range will be closed and guns put away, this is usually the time we start socializing
- Your Match Director will tabulate the scores and winners will be announced with a prize giving.
- Shoots usually conclude at 13:00 and at times earlier.
